These are the 3 bones which we must possess. 1. Backbone Under this comes; good character, we obtain this by sowing good acts, acquiring good habits as a result and we have a solid character. Remember too we learn by mistakes. Do not be idle though and make no mistakes as a consequence. Must use initiative. Strength of will. This can be acquired by going against ourselves in little things. If you  will to do a thing, do it. Make and force ourselves to do things that go against human nature. Endurance is important. Both physically and spiritually. Stick to it. We must be prepared to rough it especially in China. Do not be a soft pansy. Perseverance and grit is the thing.  —  reading  Fr Norris spiritual exercises. Mitigated from St Ignatius . Fr Norris

Remember “No man is a judge in his own case.” And from hour to hour we ripe and ripe, we rot and rot, and thereby hangs a tale. (Shakespeare). Time is a flash between two eternities. Consistency, thou art a jewel. Whatever has an end is short. Our life fixes our eternity no second innings. St. Theresa said she would walk on live coals all the days of her life, if it would gain her a little more merit. Everything is more durable than the dust out of which mankind is made. We are painting a picture and one day we must lay down the brush and gaze on it for eternity. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fr-Norris-mitigated-spiritual-exercises/371611976292777?ref=hl Fr James Norris

Reflections for today. From Fr Norris

The preparatory prayer is to be the same before any meditation. “I pray that I may have the grace of God our Lord that all my intentions, actions and operations may be directed purely to the service and praise of His Divine Majesty. Amen” Thoughts : “If a man is genuinely superior to his fellows, the first thing that he believes is equality of men.” “If anyone comes to me and does not hate  father  and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person  cannot  be my  disciples." My reflections on Fr Norris' thoughts: Not the easiest of ways to live life but it defines the missionary lifestyle , the true meaning of authority or superiority is the virtue of equality. Jesus knows humility and has authority over everything given to him by his Father. We must recognize that by giving up the worldly relationships we inherit a far bigger family, that of the whole human race itself, what really c...
